Success story: Meet Annie, a Canine Companions facility dog Making a Difference
Golden Retriever Annie, one of our previously featured puppies, stands as paw-itive proof that even a small gift can create a big impact!
After two years of dedicated socialization and training, Annie has officially graduated as a Canine Companions Facility Dog, and her proud sponsors were there to follow her journey each step of the way! Facility dogs, like Annie, receive similar training to service dogs, but rather than working with one individual with a disability, they work alongside a professional to serve a community of people in healthcare, visitation and educational settings.
Annie is already creating smiles and changing lives. Her handler shares:
“Annie’s work alongside the rehabilitation staff at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital has already been incredibly impactful. Her assistance has provided motivation and support to many of our amazing patients and families, as well as for our staff. She is always ready to lend a helping paw and brings smiles everywhere she goes!”
Annie’s journey proves that, with support like yours, we can change lives, one paw at a time. Sponsor a puppy today and help create more amazing stories like Annie’s!

“I received this fun packet of swag and memories when I sponsored a puppy for Canine Companions! You help fund a future service dog and get updates. Win-win!”

“We had SUCH lovely time working with Canine Companions for an event. Everybody loved meeting all of the adorable puppers in training. We decided to sponsor Scarlett and was rewarded with this great little bundle of goods (stuffed dog, stickers, greeting cards and a magnet.) We can’t wait to work with them again!“

“I sponsored a puppy and got the stuffed doggy. It’s so precious it brought tears to my eyes. I am so proud to be a sponsor!”

Your support helps Canine Companions provide expertly trained service dogs to people with disabilities FREE of charge, creating lasting partnerships and helping children, adults and veterans to live with greater independence.
Within the first month of sponsoring your puppy, you will receive a Sponsorship Kit in the mail. You will then receive regular updates via email that include updated photos, information on what the puppy has been learning and where they are headed next in their journey to become a service dog. You will also receive a mailed birthday card on your puppy’s first birthday and a mailed announcement when they enter professional training to become a service dog for someone with a disability.
Canine Companions service dogs spend approximately two years being raised and trained for this important work. Your sponsorship makes this journey possible.
It takes an exceptional dog to graduate as a service dog, and not every dog is suitable. All dogs must meet our standards of trained skills, health and temperament to ensure quality placements and happy working dogs. Because of this, it is important to note that a Canine Companions puppy can be released from the program at any time. Ongoing updates will be provided through professional training until graduation or release. If your sponsored puppy is released exceptionally early, accommodation will be made.
Canine Companions service dogs spend approximately two years being raised and trained for this important work, and you will receive email updates following that journey every few months.
If your sponsored puppy is released from the service dog program, it’s always in the best interest of the dog. We ensure every dog undergoes thorough health and behavioral evaluations. If they aren’t suited for a service or facility dog role, we explore other options like adoption into a loving home.
If this happens, you still have the chance to make a difference! For those on a monthly plan, your payments are committed for the full two-year sponsorship, even if the puppy’s journey takes a different path. While sponsorship doesn’t automatically roll over, you’re welcome to sponsor another puppy and continue making a difference.
The cost to sponsor a puppy is $240, or $10 a month, over a two-year period. This donation will contribute to our mission of providing these expertly trained service dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities at no cost, allowing them to lead a life of greater independence. Plus, you’ll get a lot of puppy cuteness along the way!
